The Zenit ET is a 35mm film SLR camera produced by Vileiskiy Zavod Zenit (Vileiskiy Plant Zenit) located near Minsk, in the former USSR. It was manufactured from 1982 to 1993, with a total production of 3,000,000 units. The name 'Зенит' translates to 'Zenit' in English, which refers to the zenith—the point in the sky directly above an observer in astronomy, or it can signify the highest point.

Focusing: Fresnel matte glass screen
Shutter: Horizontally-travelling, cloth focal-plane shutter with speeds ranging from 1/30 to 1/500 +B.
Shutter cocking lever: also functions to wind the film, featuring a short stroke.
Shutter release: located on the top plate with a cable release socket, and includes a lock mechanism that allows depth of field (DOF) preview by half-pressing.
Frame counter: coupled with the winding knob, it is an advance type with manual setting.
Viewfinder Framing: while the resulting negative measures 24x36mm, the actual viewfinder area is only 20x28mm.
Viewfinder: eye-level SLR pentaprism.
Exposure meter: uncoupled Selenium cell lightmeter.
Metering: features a match the needles type, with a window next to the rewind lever.
Setting: accomplished via a complex dial located under the rewind lever, which includes ASA, speed, and aperture setting dials.
Self timer: removed.
