The FED 2 is a rangefinder camera designed to accommodate Leica screw mounts, produced at the FED factory (named after Fyodor Edmundovich Dzherzhinsky) located in Kharkiv, which is now in Ukraine but was part of the Soviet Union during its manufacturing period that began in 1955. This model features a distinct design compared to the FED 1, particularly in its structure and rangefinder/viewfinder configuration.
The FED 2e variant is based on the FED 3b but incorporates a FED 2d-style shutter that lacks slow speed options. Like the 3b, it does not include strap lugs but boasts a redesigned, taller top deck, a shorter rangefinder base, and a quick film advance lever. Production of this model concluded around 1970.
